VERO BEACH -- For the past 45 years Rotarians from Indian River County Rotary clubs have invited incoming District Governors-Elect from around the world to stop by on their way to San Diego where they go for leadership training at an International Assembly. Their visit to Vero Beach and Sebastian is called Homestay.

This January, Homestay 2020 welcomed District Governor-Elects from Israel, South Africa, the Netherlands, England, and New Zealand. The visiting Rotarians and their partners were hosted in local Rotarian homes, visited local attractions, and enjoyed the friendship and hospitality that is typical of Rotarians everywhere.

During their five day Homestay, the DGEs had tours of Triton Submarine, McKee Gardens, the McLarty Treasure Museum, and the Museum of Art. They were treated to an authentic southern barbecue, had a lunch catered by Panera Bread and Chelsea ’s at Humiston Park by the Rotary Peace Pole.

They also experienced old Florida cuisine at historic Marsh Landing before heading out on Capt. Bob’s Airboat Adventure. During the last day of their stay all five Indian River County Rotary clubs gathered to honor them at a farewell luncheon meeting at the Vero Beach Yacht Club.

As we begin 2020, local Rotary clubs begin their 94th year of service to the residents of Indian River County and to the world. With five clubs and well over 200 Rotarians, the world’s largest community service organization has never had a greater impact in Indian River County. !
